I think the GEEK REPORT is wonderful, and I was honored to be a guest on one of their earliest ventures. What struck me immediatly was both in person (and on the 2 prior podcasts I had listened to) was the preparation and professionalism that goes into the show. I am a podcast fan and a comics fan, but rarely do the two mediums meet as that most comic/geek culture podcasters are more interested in hearing their own voices than actually saying anything engaging. The GEEK REPORT does not suffer from that. Clearly the hosts are having fun evangelizing their loves, but they also know they are going to be speaking to a wider audience when they land ‘on-air’ at KFAI. They make the topics approachable, interesting, and fun to the casual listener. The GEEK REPORT is also, I think, a much needed venue in the Twin Cities. The MPLS/STPL area is awash in geekiness. We have the 5th highest concentration of cartoonists. We have a thriving modern arts community. When have MCAD and MCTC which churn out art and film geeks every year. We have SPRINGCON, FALLCON, MIX, and ZINEFEST which bring in thousands of fans of mainstream and indie comics, and DYI culture. We live in an area that has enbraced it’s geekiness, and I think THE GEEK REPORT is the perfect reflection of the towns and times we live in.
You may think we have enough radio shows where a bunch of geeks discuss the latest in movies, books, comics, and all that is geek but trust me, we do not. I had the pleasure of being a guest on the show and was very impressed with the professionalism and all out geek-knowledge that the crew brought to the show. The discussing centered on comics and movies, both current and past, and each member of the crew brought a completely different yet fresh perspective to the debate. Since the crew knows each other both personally and professionally outside of the show, they interact with a lot of chemistry – there is never a dull moment and thought I was only there for one hour, the show moved so quickly, and we had such a great time, that I thought it was only 10 minutes. This is a good show – an important show to the Twin Cities, a town crawling with geekery!!
I like the idea of having a local geek-centric podcast about all things geeky. Too many shows are focused around one topic: comics, movies, etc. I like that the format of the show is flexible enough to cover multiple formats. It insures that everything stays fresh.
I heart The Geek Report, and I’m glad that I got to be a part of such awesome local radio. This show is like nothing else in the area, covering a wide range of topics that all still fall with in interest of its audience. This show is exactly what the local comic book, movie, gaming nerd community needs. The host have such passion for what they’re discussing that it really grabs the listener, its like This American Life for nerds. Truly celebrating all things geek.
Thank you for doing the show the Twin Cities deserve. Proud to be a Minnesotan geek! Simply cojonudo.
Thanks for allowing me on The Geek Report. I’ve done dozens of podcasts, but it was great to be on a real radio program. You guys were awesome and it was a blast to be on a show with like minded people.
I was a guest on the show, and I’ve listened to all the episodes. The Geek Show is a delight. It really is one of the best comics and “geek culture” related audio shows I’ve heard, and I’ve listened to a number of them. Many shows of the genre are a rambling mess… the Geek Show is always well-organized, focused, well-produced and professional, and Lance does a great job keeping the conversation on track. The hosts have great chemistry, and always choose great subjects to focus on. I hope the show is around for a good, long run.
The Geek Report is a well oiled machine. The hosts are well versed in geek culture. I tuned in, originally, for the comics news and views, but now look forward to hearing about movies, video games, and other happenings. Also, I like hearing about the various jobs that Bud undertakes. Job well done folks!
This show is amazing and it should be broadcast on the local airwaves in some way. It’s just a shining beacon of casual and intelligent nerdiness – well crafted as well.
The Geek Report is an amazing and enjoyable show to listen to, with what sounds like great and creative chemistry and a wonderfully wide range of enjoyable topics.
While admittedly I haven’t had the chance to listen to EVERY episode (ah, technology!), I have been able to have met and conversed with some of the hosts and guests alike at various locations/times and can affirm they are just as wonderful in person as they are on the air.
